OPPORTUNITIES: 22nd International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment
Theme - Water: Where does it come from?
Sub-theme: Source of life
The International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment is organized every year by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporation.
It has been held since 1991 and has received more than 3 million entries from children in over 150 countries.
The theme of the 22nd painting competition will be "Water: The Source of Life" and children will have until 15 February 2013 to submit their entries.

The organization’s People Daily: Art and Media project, funded by a small grant from Internews, aims to raise public awareness of human rights and social issues in Armenia through visual media content (illustrated stories, photo stories, PSAs and other forms of interactive visual arts), street art installations, and participatory public events. A young Haitian earthquake survivor uses art to cope with disasterNEW YORK, USA, 22 January 2010 – Until their home was destroyed in last week’s earthquake, Bruno Rene, 18, lived with his mother in the southern Haitian port city of Jacmel. Since then, Bruno, an aspiring artist, has been working on art projects to cope with the impact of the disaster.
Bruno spoke with UNICEF Radio by phone from Jacmel, describing his experience during the earthquake and in its aftermath.

When the quake struck on 12 January, Bruno was in the street. He heard a loud noise but didn’t understand what was going on, and then he fell. A man passed by and told him it was an earthquake. When he looked up, he saw that all the houses around him were destroyed – including his own.
“Everyone was crying,” he recalls.

'Making Spirits Bright' Theme Will Inspire Children to Help Kids Worldwide
NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In what has become a beloved annual tradition, U.S. children are being asked to submit creative drawings for the 2008 Pier 1 Imports/UNICEF Greeting Card Contest to benefit children worldwide. One winner will be chosen from thousands of entries and their winning artwork will be reproduced as an official UNICEF holiday greeting card, sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores across the country during the 2008 holiday season. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of this as well as all UNICEF cards sold at Pier 1 go to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
