NEWS: Children from Moldova express through drawings what a caring family means to them


CHISINAU, 4 March 2014 - Some 40 children aged 9-18 from Moldova were awarded in a drawing competition about family care. They received diplomas and painting sets for expressing their opinions about what a loving and caring family means to them. 

 

The national drawing competition "My family raises me with care" was organized by the Ministry of Education and UNICEF in partnership with Youth Media Centre NGO to promote a non-violent education among children, parents, and teachers.

Description

The International Competition for Young Artists THE 02 is organized by an independent artistic group – THE Video Community operating in Krakow, Poland.
The Competition for Young Artists is being held within the framework of the International Video Art Review THE 02. The review consists of 2 main parts, a special show of video works by invited artists and a competition show of video works that have been admitted to the final of the aforementioned competition.
The 10 selected videos by different authors will be presented to the audience of the International Video Art Review THE 02, the program of which includes a premiere screening in Krakow, screenings in other towns in Poland and on TVP Kultura television channel.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to students of art colleges and academies (institutions of higher education) or graduates of such institutions.
The videos made not earlier than 1 January 2011 are eligible for the competition. Artists may submit works that have received awards at other reviews or competitions. The preferred length of the video is up to 6 minutes, although videos up to 15 minutes lengths will be considered.

The organizers of the annual Film Festival on Human Rights “this human world” taking place in Vienna from 5 to 12 December 2013 once again will hold a Student Short Film Competition in 2013 inviting students from Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland to take part.

The competition in 2013 is held under the auspices of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Austria with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Art, Culture and Education.

COMPETITIONS: “My story, my rights”


ERGO Network and Amnesty International are calling for your contribution to the RomaReact interactive map for the contest "My story, my rights" with the aim of highlighting the voices of young Roma on the European map. Share your story with the world, make everyone see, through your own eyes, who the Roma are, and help us fight anti-Roma prejudice and discrimination.

OPPORTUNITIES: Contest for young photographers open [Russia]


Russian professional and amateur photographers ages 18 to 35 can participate in this contest.
The Russian Union of Art Photographers, in collaboration with The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, launches its annual photo contest, Young Russian Photographers 2013.

Applicants may submit photo projects, reports or stories (three to six photos), united by a general theme.
Participation for members and alternate members of The Russian Union of Art Photographers is free. The entry fee for other participants is RUB400 (about US$13) for one project, RUB700 (about US$23) for two projects and RUB900 (about US$30) for three projects.

Ten winners will be awarded scholarships for young authors in the field of culture and art in the amount of RUB36,000 (about US$1,200) each.

The deadline is April 15.

The International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment is organized every year by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporation.


It has been held since 1991 and has received more than 3 million entries from children in over 150 countries.


The theme of the 22nd painting competition will be "Water: The Source of Life" and children will have until 15 February 2013 to submit their entries.

OPPORTUNITIES: Youth storytelling competition open (GLOBAL)


Students in middle school and high school worldwide can participate in this contest.
The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, in collaboration with NewsAction.org, is accepting entries for its Digital Storytelling Competition.
Participants should tell a great story, focused on one person, addressing one of the following themes: gender, health or education. Submissions can use any combination of writing, photography, audio or video.
Written work must not exceed 2,000 words; video and audio stories must be no longer than five minutes; and photo essays must contain no more than 10 captioned images.
Three winners will have their reporting featured on the Pulitzer Center website, and each will be allowed to select a charity for a US$200 donation in his or her name.
The deadline is February 22.

OPPORTUNITIES: National Geographic contest open (PHOTO)


Professional and amateur photographers can enter a contest.
Photographs submitted for judging have the chance to appear in an upcoming edition of National Geographic. The complete guidelines for submitting photos are available here.
Each day, editors pick a dozen top photos that are then voted on by readers of the website to arrive at the best photo of the month.
Photographers from all over the world may participate, but they must be over the age of 18. Photos can be digital or digital scans and only one entry is permitted per person in the monthly contest. All winners retain ownership of copyright.
The submission deadline is February 14.

OPPORTUNITIES / COMPETITIONS: UN climate change podcast contest open



Journalists worldwide whose work addresses climate change are eligible for this award.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is seeking applicants for its CDM "Changing Lives" Podcast Contest, which will recognize exceptional work related to the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism.
Submissions will be judged based on creativity and originality, composition, artistic merit and persuasiveness in telling the story of the CDM on the theme “Changing Lives." Each podcast should be no more than five minutes in length.
The winning work will be featured in a dedicated booth at the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference in Doha in December 2012. Short-listed entries could be featured prominently in important print and promotional material, on the UNFCCC website and other platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, iTunes and Soundcloud.
The application deadline is September 20.

OPPORTUNITIES / VIDEO: NPR launches video contest


Young people up to age 25 can participate in a video contest.
NPR's "My Big Idea to Change the World" contest is designed to give people ages 13 to 25 the chance to explain their original ideas powered by science, technology or math. Legal residents of the U.S. are eligible to participate.
Entrants will explain their idea in a video. The top 10 finalists will have their videos featured NPR's website, www.npr.org, and on NPR's Facebook page, "Joe's Big Idea."The first place winner will get personalized advice or commentary from a leader in their field of innovation, facilitated by NPR senior correspondent Joe Palca, on how to make their idea become a reality.
You can enter the contest as an individual or as a team of up to three members.

OPPORTUNITIES: UNESCO essay contest open


Children and young adults up to 25 years of age can participate in this worldwide essay contest.
The 2012 Goi Peace Foundation - UNESCO International Essay Contest for Young People are inviting youth to respond to this question: What kind of future do you wish to create for yourself and the world?
Essays must be 800 words or less, typed or printed in English, French, Spanish or German or 1600 characters or less in Japanese.
The first-place winner will receive a certificate and prize of 100,000 Yen (approx. US$1,000) and will be invited to the award ceremony in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for November 2012.
All prize winners will be announced in November 2012 on the Goi Peace Foundation website and the UNESCO website.
The deadline is June 30.

Create a short video that explains an invention, an experiment, a science concept or an idea and submit it to the 60 second science video competition. COMPETITIONS: UNICEF competition urges youth to think about tomorrow (EGYPT)

CAIRO: Over 350 media students submitted films relayed their aspirations for the future as well as the challenges that face Egyptian youth and children today in the first edition of the Universities’ Movie Festival for Youth and Children.

The festival, which aims at supporting university students and recognizing their work, is organized by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), Egypt’s National Child Rights Observatory and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA) and the Italian Cooperation.

Films were submitted under three categories; documentaries, short films and public service announcements in the competition titled “What do you see for tomorrow?”

Young photographers and filmmakers can enter the competition

The Project Rise Facebook Contest, sponsored by the Global Fund for Children, seeks photos and videos representing the biggest issues adolescent girls face in a community. The contest is open to aspiring filmmakers and filmmakers between 16 and 24 years old.

Participants can submit one photo on this theme and/or a one-minute video. Judges will evaluate all entries and the top entries will be posted on Facebook. The photos and videos that receive the most “likes” will win US$100.

This round of CL!CK focuses on water and climate change. Submit your own photo(s) related to 1) water, 2) climate change or 3) both themes, and grab a chance to win a reporting trip to Portugal this spring.

Please keep in mind, a contestant may upload a maximum of 8 entries to the competition platform. This upload must be done in one go. In other words, a participant has one chance to upload his/her photos. Once uploaded, the photos cannot be deleted, altered, or added to.

OPPORTUNITIES: Competition for aspiring journalists in Russia


Russian high school students interested in a career in journalism can submit works to the annual "Become a Journalist" competition organized by the Lomonosov Moscow State University. Deadline to apply: January 15.

Winners will be enrolled in the School of Journalism. The competition is supported by Russian Radio (Radio Rossii) and the newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
