NEWS: Young People speak out on education for human rights

Produced by UNESCO and realized by pupils of UNESCO Associated Schools in 10 countries, it shows adolescents of secondary-school age freely expressing their opinions about gender, diversity, violence, exclusion and other questions.
Viewers are invited to appreciate how young people understand and experience concepts and ideals of human rights in countries as different as Albania, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Indonesia, Lebanon and Uganda.
The film can be used as a teaching tool for secondary schools to introduce core topics of human rights education and initiate classroom discussions.

Categorias Audiovisuais e Categoria Digital e Interativa « Prix Jeunesse Iberoamericano 2011

Produtor, na competição que vai acontecer entre os dias 14 e 16 de junho, poderão participar conteúdos de diferentes formatos. Para inscrever-se em categorias audiovisuais, há cinco opções. Dentre as modalidades divididas por faixa etária (0 a 6, 7 a 11 e 12 a 15 anos) e tipo (ficção ou não-ficção), é preciso definir a que melhor preenche o perfil de sua produção. Em “Ficção” estão incluídas telenovelas, seriados, séries em live-action ou animações. Já em “Não-Ficção” devem inscrever-se documentários, reality-shows, game-shows, musicais e programas de caráter informativo como noticiários, almanaques de curiosidade e revistas eletrônicas. Vale lembrar que elas devem ter duração de 2 a 55 minutos e devem, obrigatoriamente, ter sido exibidas no período de 01/01/2009 e 08/04/2011 em TV ou na web.
Caso sua produção seja digital ou interativa, uma nova modalidade foi criada. Podem se inscrever dentro da “Categoria Digital e Interativa” sites, redes sociais, games online, games para console, rádios online, vídeos interativos, aplicativos para celular etc. São produções que estimulam a interação do público e ainda oferecem narrativas não-lineares ou enredos e personagens criados pelo próprio usuário. Projetos de crossmedia/transmídia também podem participar: ver como isso pode ser feito no regulamento.
Todas as produções concorrentes devem ter sido realizadas por produtoras ibero-americanas, em português e/ou espanhol e a data máxima de postagem para conteúdos em qualquer uma das duas categorias é dia 08 de abril.

AWARDS / PHOTO: Young global photography competition winners arrive in Ethiopia

The five youngsters – from Brazil, Morocco, New Zealand, Romania and the United States – are joining 24 Ethiopian children at the workshop in Awassa from October 31 to November 4, 2010.
The ‘EYE SEE’ workshop, themed around children’s rights, is a photo project supported by Sony Corporation and UNICEF that aims to provide children all over the world with the opportunity to express and share their experiences through digital photography.

OPPORTUNITIES: Youth communication meeting to focus on Brazil's 'culture of solidarity'
Communication students, young journalists and experts will convene from February 2 to 7 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, to analyze new trends in communication and the "culture of solidarity." Registration is ongoing.
At the event, speakers, researchers and professors will cover the following themes: dialogue and transmission of the culture of solidarity; the youth reality in Latin America; ethical principles of the culture of solidarity; and future challenges: building and articulating networks and strength.
The meeting is organized by Organización Católica Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Comunicación (OCLACC) and Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul.

NEWS: Rio 'shanty town reporter' tells her story

Brazilian teenager Mayra Avellar was awarded the Children's Peace Prize in 2008 for organising a protest against drug-related violence in her shanty town. Here she tells how the battle between police and the traffickers affects the lives of people in her community.
I am 17-years old and live in Vila Cruzeiro, one of the shanty towns or favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Vila Cruzeiro is in the north of the city. Around 120,000 people live here and at times it can be a difficult place because of the violence. It hits us when we least expect it.
We are not able to do anything. We cannot go to school, people cannot go to work and we have to stop our lives.
