CfA: European Youth Summit: 100 for the Next 100 in the Danube Region, Sarajevo, 4-8 June 2014

Europe is, just as 100 years ago, at a crossroad. This June, Sarajevo, just as one century ago, will be the center of the World. Only this time, the reason will be much more pleasant. European Youth Summit, with a symbolic title "100 for the Next 100 in the Danube Region" will be held in Sarajevo from 04-08 June 2014. This event will bring 100 young leaders from the countries of the Danube region and South-East Europe.

Participants of the Summit will have a unique opportunity to discuss the challenges Europe and the region are facing nowadays, not just among themselves, but also with the key decision makers with different backgrounds - politics, civil society and extinguished academic members of the community. Another aspect of the Summit are the workshops, which will provide participants with an opportunity to acquire more practical knowledge and skills from wide range of areas. Organizers of the event are regional members of the Forum Alpbach Network from Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Partners of the project are European Forum Alpbach, Danube Competence Center and University of Sarajevo.

NEWS: Balkans gets tough on Internet crimes against children

Countries throughout the region are considering ways to protect children from pedophiles and other unseen dangers on the Internet.

Regional data shows that 20 percent of children who use the Internet become the target of an online predator or pedophile. Of those targeted, 77 percent are 14 years old or older and 22 percent are 10 to 13 years old. Of those children who encounter sexual content online, 93 percent fail to inform their parents, said social media consultant and software producer Darko Disoski.

Several countries are taking differing approaches to the problem. Serbia created a task force two years ago to deal with online pedophiles, and has arrested 40 people to date.

In Bulgaria, meanwhile, authorities are giving parents more control over what their children see online by offering software that tracks webpages and keystrokes and sends a daily report to parents. The effort is designed to make it easier for parents to keep children away from sites where they could be approached by unwanted adults.

Macedonia's ministry of information technology and administration announced plans for a helpline to educate parents and children on ways to minimise exposure and to report illicit online material. NGOs were also asked to join the effort.

FESTIVALS / CALL FOR ENTRIES / OPPORTUNITIES: Call for Entries: Sarajevo City of Film Project 2012

The call for entries to participate in the Sarajevo City of Film 2012 project will be open from 3^rd November to 9^th December 2011.

The goal of the project is to support and instigate cooperation between young filmmakers in Southeast Europe, and the call for entries will be open, as in previous years, only for the participants of one of the two previous editions of the Sarajevo Talent Campus.

In this way, the Sarajevo Film Festival wishes to give the chance to directors, screenwriters, actors and producers, who attended the Sarajevo Talent Campus during the 16th and 17th editions of the Sarajevo Film Festival, to present their talent and gain additional experience by making short films.

OPPORTUNITIES: Film-making Workshops “Who is afraid of the Big Bad Crises?” (BALKAN REGION)

Are you young, creative, curious, willing to meet new people and visit new places? Are you interested in expressing your ideas through innovative film making techniques?

We are looking for you.

Apply now to one of our 3 film-making workshops and you will understand how to overcome your own limits and support others in overcoming theirs. The workshops will aim to address the topical issue of 'crisis' by developing 3 films all starting from the same moment of crisis and structured around the same 'anchor moments'.

During the workshops the selected young filmmakers will have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other, as well as exchange ideas about cinematography and the role of cinema, in the Balkan region.

The main purpose of the workshops is to give participants time to envision and create short films addressing the subject of 'crisis', seen from different perspectives: economical, political, personal crises, etc.

Each workshop will aim to produce a collective short film, challenging traditional film-making methods and instead of a linear creative process – writing, filming, editing – a new creative process will be developed and the three film-making stages intertwined (editing will take place throughout the process and not only at the end, writing will develop and emerge during filming etc), making the relations between writing, filming and editing much more dynamic.

The collective short films will, of course, be co-productions created by teams of participants of different nationalities and will be shown in a public screening after each workshop, as well as during the 2nd edition of "Balkans beyond Borders" Film Festival, which will take place in Athens in June 2011.

The workshops and festival should act as a meeting platform for young filmmakers from the region, workshop directors, organisers and institutions and offer participants opportunities for other future collaborations.

OPPORTUNITIES / FILM COMPETITIONS: “Balkans Beyond Borders” Short Film Competition (BALKANS / EUROPE)

What is the "Balkans Beyond Borders" Short Film Competition?

Aiming to encourage young people towards the development of solidarity and the understanding among the people in the Balkans, the Initiative "Balkans Beyond Borders" organizes a Short Film Competition on the internet under the title "Balkan Beyond Borders"that starts on Monday the 7th of December 2009 and finishes on Sunday the 14th of February 2010.

Eligible to participate are all the young creators at the age of 18 to 30 from Balkan countries that can apply electronically by sending their film to the e-mail address: filmcontest@balkansbeyondborders.eu This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The subject of the competition is "The Inter- Balkan cooperation". The audience will have the chance to vote for the 10 best films and then the jury will vote for the best one among those 10. The jury will consist of distinguished and awarded directors and important people of the film industry. The Award Ceremony for the 10 best films will take place in Belgrade on the 13th of March 2010 in a big fest for the youth that will be organized by the "Balkans Beyond Borders". It should be underlined that this competition is being supported by the Naousa International Film Festival.

During the period from April 2010 to August 2010 the winning film will be promoted for the realization of the Campaign "Inter- Balkan cooperation- Live, Experience Create… together (LECT)"
