Roma rights are violated every day in Europe. The European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency concluded that the Roma are the most discriminated against group in the EU: “Every second Roma respondent said that they were discriminated against on the basis of their ethnicity”        

 

The activity will equip participants with specific methodology Living Library. The context of the real situation on the ground with the Roma people in different EU counties will be addressed in a creative way.

The main aim of this TC is to raise awareness of and enable dialogue about discrimination and Antigypsyism that lead to social exclusion of Roma young people.

30 Young people over 18 years who are MOTIVATED, INTERESTED to develop idea for local initiative and READY for local changes from:

A new media expedition?

Costa Rica’s Monteverde cloud forest is one of the most biologically diverse places on our planet. But like wild places around the world, its fragile ecosystems are under enormous stress.

Come join our new media expedition in Costa Rica this July 8th-21^st to expand your new media production skills, while helping to create a sustainable environment for animals, plants, and people.

During a one or two-week program, you’ll work with journalists, educators, artists and travelers who’ll create a multimedia project for local conservation and community groups working on the “Bellbird Biological Corridor”– a project to reforest & re-connect a patchwork of forests, farms and communities from the Monteverde cloud forest down to the Pacific Ocean.

The goal of the expedition is to digitally illustrate the ecosystems and communities in the corridor — through short documentary filmmaking, digital animation & mapping, photos, audio and educational resources –  and make these tools accessible locally and to homes and classrooms worldwide.  By creating networks of learning and support, we will join forces with local communities to protect ecosystems and endangered species, and ultimately, the health of our planet.

EVENTS / FESTIVALS: Call for participants to 1st Kabataan sa Bisayas Media Festival (PHILIPPINES)

ACLOBAN CITY Leyte, Feb. 19 (PIA) –- Anak TV is calling on all interested youth from the Visayas to participate in the first Kabataan sa Bisayas Media Festival which it is spearheading on May 20, 21 and 22, 2011 at Tacloban City.

The contest is open to all youth living, studying or based in any of the Visayan islands, provinces, towns or cities. They must not have reached age 18 by May 31, 2011 to qualify. Youth temporarily outside of the Visayas for reasons of schooling may still enter for as long as their permanent residence is in the Visayas.

Youth are encouraged to use any camera, whether hand held videos, handycams, digital cameras, mobile phones with camera capability, etc.

Deadline for submission of all entries is Friday, 8 April 2011.

OPPORTUNITIES: Film-making Workshops “Who is afraid of the Big Bad Crises?” (BALKAN REGION)

Are you young, creative, curious, willing to meet new people and visit new places? Are you interested in expressing your ideas through innovative film making techniques?

We are looking for you.

Apply now to one of our 3 film-making workshops and you will understand how to overcome your own limits and support others in overcoming theirs. The workshops will aim to address the topical issue of 'crisis' by developing 3 films all starting from the same moment of crisis and structured around the same 'anchor moments'.

During the workshops the selected young filmmakers will have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other, as well as exchange ideas about cinematography and the role of cinema, in the Balkan region.

The main purpose of the workshops is to give participants time to envision and create short films addressing the subject of 'crisis', seen from different perspectives: economical, political, personal crises, etc.

Each workshop will aim to produce a collective short film, challenging traditional film-making methods and instead of a linear creative process – writing, filming, editing – a new creative process will be developed and the three film-making stages intertwined (editing will take place throughout the process and not only at the end, writing will develop and emerge during filming etc), making the relations between writing, filming and editing much more dynamic.

The collective short films will, of course, be co-productions created by teams of participants of different nationalities and will be shown in a public screening after each workshop, as well as during the 2nd edition of "Balkans beyond Borders" Film Festival, which will take place in Athens in June 2011.

The workshops and festival should act as a meeting platform for young filmmakers from the region, workshop directors, organisers and institutions and offer participants opportunities for other future collaborations.

FUNDING: Call for proposals: $50K grants available for next-generation children's media projects in Canada

TORONTO, Feb. 15 /CNW/ - The Centre for Creative Communications, Centennial College, is seeking innovative and forward-thinking proposals from Canadian media, interactive, creative, technology, business and social entrepreneurs for the next wave of children's media and multi-platform projects to qualify for $50,000 federal development grants.

The new kidsmediacentre, an industry and creative content think-tank at Centennial College, will hold an information session to interested developers, on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 pm at The Centre for Creative Communications, located at 951 Carlaw Avenue, Toronto.

Centennial College's Applied Research and Innovation Centre (ARIC) has received ten $50,000 Federal Development grants, some of which are available to help small and medium enterprises in the kids' technology industry launch the next big idea in children's media. The grants are part of a coordinated strategy between the federal government and colleges to accelerate innovation and productivity in southern Ontario by asking business partners to collaborate on projects and work "hands-on" with college faculty and students in developing new and innovative technologies and services. Businesses are asked to contribute at least $25,000 towards a project in cash and/or in-kind.
