OPPORTUNITIES: Film-making Workshops “Who is afraid of the Big Bad Crises?” (BALKAN REGION)

Are you young, creative, curious, willing to meet new people and visit new places? Are you interested in expressing your ideas through innovative film making techniques?

We are looking for you.

Apply now to one of our 3 film-making workshops and you will understand how to overcome your own limits and support others in overcoming theirs. The workshops will aim to address the topical issue of 'crisis' by developing 3 films all starting from the same moment of crisis and structured around the same 'anchor moments'.

During the workshops the selected young filmmakers will have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other, as well as exchange ideas about cinematography and the role of cinema, in the Balkan region.

The main purpose of the workshops is to give participants time to envision and create short films addressing the subject of 'crisis', seen from different perspectives: economical, political, personal crises, etc.

Each workshop will aim to produce a collective short film, challenging traditional film-making methods and instead of a linear creative process – writing, filming, editing – a new creative process will be developed and the three film-making stages intertwined (editing will take place throughout the process and not only at the end, writing will develop and emerge during filming etc), making the relations between writing, filming and editing much more dynamic.

The collective short films will, of course, be co-productions created by teams of participants of different nationalities and will be shown in a public screening after each workshop, as well as during the 2nd edition of "Balkans beyond Borders" Film Festival, which will take place in Athens in June 2011.

The workshops and festival should act as a meeting platform for young filmmakers from the region, workshop directors, organisers and institutions and offer participants opportunities for other future collaborations.

OPPORTUNITIES / CALL FOR ENTRIES: Film festival invites documentaries on environmental issues

An international film festival in Greece is seeking documentaries, shorts and features with environmental and ecology themes, encouraging conservation issues and issues related to the natural, the human and the built environment. Deadline: March 1, 2010.

At the festival, called Rodos International Films + Visual Arts Festival Ecofilms, prizes will be awarded to high quality films that take an innovative approach to conservation issues and that explore "daring" subject matter. Films should have been produced after January 1, 2009. The festival will take place June 22 to 27, 2010.

The competition has four categories: Feature Length Films, Medium Length Films, Short Length Films and Audience Films.

EVENTS / CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: 9th European Meeting of Young People's Audiovisual Creation - Camera Zizanio ‘09

Regulations

Acceptance of regulations: Participation in the competition means acceptance, with no reservations, of all regulations.

The films from Europe will participate at the European Competition Section of the Festival, and the non- European films at the International Panorama. There's also the Greek Competition Section with films from Greece.

The films of the Competition Sections are divided into three age categories:
A) Films by children aged up to 12 years old
B) Films by children from 13 to 16 years old
C) Films by children from 17 to 20 years old.

The movies can be sent either on videotape or DVD. Their duration must not exceed 10 min.

The ideas and messages must be your own. You may consult adults for technical advice and the final process.

The movies will be evaluated by a jury comprising adults and children. The awards will be presented at the Closing Ceremony on December 12th.

The Festival covers hotel accommodation for up to 2 people for every film in the competition section during the Festival, as well as transportation within Greece only. It does not cover airline tickets. It also provides free entrance to all the Camera Zizanio and Olympia International Film Festival screenings, as well as to all parallel events.

Every participant must send the application form to the Festival Office by October 20, together with:
- the DVD of the film
- two stills from the film
- In the event of teamwork (school or workshop), a brief description of the group must be sent together with the application form.
