The organizers of the annual Film Festival on Human Rights “this human world” taking place in Vienna from 5 to 12 December 2013 once again will hold a Student Short Film Competition in 2013 inviting students from Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland to take part.

The competition in 2013 is held under the auspices of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Austria with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Art, Culture and Education.

NEWS / AWARDS: A Greek youth media project wins the 2012 Charlemagne Youth Prize



The 2012 Charlemagne Youth Prize was awarded to the "Europe on the Ground", a Greek youth media project. According to the European Parliament, it is an innovative youth media project that sends multicultural teams of over 50 young citizen journalists and amateur photographers to 10 European capitals each year.
The 2012 Charlemagne Youth Prize whose applications could be sent since November 2011, was awarded to Europe on the Ground, an innovative youth media project that sends multicultural teams of over 50 young citizen journalists and amateur photographers to 10 European capitals each year. Second prize went to Europe Meets School, an exchange programme for Erasmus students (Czech Republic) and third prize was to the Cycle Me Home project, a documentary road-movie (Hungary).

Goals of the festival:

Facilitating a recognition and a better understanding of the Roma culture, providing a realistic image of the situation of the minority and its relation to the majority culture. It documents the complex reality of the Roma culture and its system of traditions, its set of values, its everyday life, and reveals the inevitable effects that emerge from these. With the help of the short films we are looking for answers to such questions as how historical tradition and the course of contemporary life affects Roma families and their coexistence with the majority nation, and what are the possibilities and limitations of integration from the point of view of members of the minority.
Amateur and professional filmmakers, workshops, students submit your documentary!

OPPORTUNITIES / COMPETITIONS: Migrants in the spotlight media award (Student Media Competition)

What? An international media competition for articles and documentaries

Who?
For university or college students in the EU (ages 18-28)

Where?
Submissions must take place in Hungary , Czech Republic, Latvia , Lithuania , Romania or Slovakia

When? Submissions are due 4 April 2011.

What are the prizes for each category?
First prize: 1,000 EUR. Second prize: 500 EUR. Third prize: 200 EUR (6 prizes total). In addition, the winners will be invited to an award ceremony at an international conference with costs covered.

The International Organization for Migration, in coordination with the European Commission, is hosting a competition for university and college students to submit articles and documentaries on migration and integration-related issues. Articles and documentaries must address integration issues in Hungary , Czech Republic, Latvia , Lithuania , Romania or Slovakia . Selected winners will receive a cash prize and winners’ work will be showcased at the international conference “Promoting Migrant Integration Through Media and Intercultural Dialogue” in Budapest in May 2011.


Awards for each category (article and documentary film): First prize: 1,000 EUR. Second prize: 500 EUR. Third prize: 200 EUR. In addition to the cash prize and a certificate, the winners will be invited to the award ceremony at the international conference, “Promoting Migrant Integration Through Media and Intercultural Dialogue”, implemented in coordination with the Hungarian EU Presidency in Budapest on 17-18 May (all travel and accommodation expenses covered). The winners’ work will be featured in various media channels (websites, newspapers, YouTube, etc.).

Deadlines for submissions: 17:00 GMT+1 ( Hungary time zone) 4 April 2011.

Eligibility: Students must be registered to study at a university or college in the EU (ages 18-28). Proof of university registration (e.g. copy of the student ID card or class registration papers) and age must be supplied.
