The organizers of the annual Film Festival on Human Rights “this human world” taking place in Vienna from 5 to 12 December 2013 once again will hold a Student Short Film Competition in 2013 inviting students from Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland to take part.

The competition in 2013 is held under the auspices of the United Nations Information Service (UNIS) in Vienna and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Austria with the support of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Art, Culture and Education.

Call for applications: Youth Event at 5th UNAOC Forum in Vienna, Austria

The 5th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations will take place in Vienna, Austria, from February 26 to 28, 2013. This forum will bring together a vast array of participants including youth, political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, representatives of faith communities, journalists, etc. to work together and agree on joint actions to improve relations across cultures and religions and build a lasting peace.

The Forum will explore on how responsible leadership can make a difference in three major issues including media pluralism and diversity of media content and their contribution to fostering public debate, democracy and awareness of diverse opinions.

Up to 150 youth (between 18 and 35 years old) from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds with outstanding track records in intercultural dialogue and youth work will be selected as participants of the Youth Event (February 26) and the 5th UNAOC Forum (February 27 and 28) in Vienna. The Austrian government is offering some financial support to up to 150 youth representatives wishing to attend the UNAOC Forum in Vienna.
Deadline for submission: November 1, 2012.

NEWS / AWARDS: Students produce films on Human Rights: Film Festival and UN honour the winners

The winners of the third Students-Film-Competition received their awards at the Vienna International Centre on 6 December 2011. The film Every Human Being has the Right to Food by students of the Clemens-Hochmeister school in Landegg (Tyrol) won the first prize.

The first Austrian film festival for Human Rights This Human World (THW) organized the competition in cooperation with the United Nations Information Service in Vienna (UNIS), the Media Literacy Award of the Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (BMUKK), and the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Austria. Under the patronage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Commission in Austria, students 10 to 20 years old were asked to make short films on the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted on 10 December 1948.

OPPORTUNITIES: Young journalists invited to AIDS conference in Austria

Young journalists from around the world are encouraged to apply for scholarships to participate in the XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010), to be held in Vienna, Austria, from July 18 to 23. Deadline to apply: February 10.

The aim of the Youth Program is to strengthen the participation of young people and the profile of youth issues at AIDS 2010. Program activities include symposia and a leadership development workshop for delegates, a youth pre-conference, a youth reception, and other events.

The scholarship includes: registration to the conference (includes access to all sessions and exhibitions), economy-class travel (pre-paid ticket at the lowest fare available), accommodation, modest living allowance for the conference duration and travel insurance for the duration of the conference. Partial scholarships are also available.

Call for participants: Media vs. Integration conference in Vienna from 2-7th of July

EYP and the Youth Press of Austria organize the Media vs. integration conference in Vienna. The conference wants to raise awareness on the topic of media and integration within youth media all over Europe and to contribute towards a positive image of integration among young people. Integration, be it the integration of migrants or EU integration, is a multifaceted topic to be examined in its representation and influence on media.

The conference offers workshops on project development according to different aspects of the topic of integration, working groups for media production in diverse media formats (written, audio, video, photo) and presentations by experts on the topic.
