AWARDS / OPPORTUNITIES: Entry door open for Canadian Youth Media Alliance Awards

Canada’s Youth Media Alliance (YMA) has officially launched its English-language Awards of Excellence, which honor achievement in TV programming and digital content for young viewers over the past two years.

The competition is open to all Canadian-made youth productions originally broadcast in English within Canada between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2012. Nominations must be submitted by Friday, February 15, 2013.

A total of 14 awards will be handed out, including a grand prize for the most outstanding production to hit the small screen (all platforms) in the past two years, along with awards for emerging talent and lifetime achievement.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS / OPPORTUNITIES: Call for Berlinale Talent Campus Participants, Berlin, (February 9 – 14, 2013)

Deadline: 20 September 2012

Berlinale are looking for the most talented and ambitious up-and-coming filmmakers, distributors and film critics, who are (disregarding their age) in the first years of their professional career. Film students who are about to graduate or taking part in post-graduate programmes can apply, but should have realised outstanding achievements already. All master classes, panel discussions, workshops and hands-on programmes are in English. Therefore an advanced knowledge of the English language is a basic condition for participation.

CALL FOR ENTRIES / FESTIVALS: International Rolling Film Festival - showcasing films about Roma

Romawood and Balkan Sunflowers NGO’s from Kosovo are        organizing a third edition of International Rolling Film Festival - showcasing films about Roma.

We are now accepting films entries to be considered for official programing of the festival.

The call for entries are for:

Documentaries, short or long

Feature Films

Short Films

Animation

All the films should be translated or subtitles in English. Filmmakers should send their films as soon as possible together with; entry form, stills of film and directors photograph, bio and filmography attached and send to rollingfilmfestival@gmail.com

OPPORTUNITIES: European Youth Media Days offers scholarships

Journalists between the ages of 18 and 30 can participate in this event in Brussels.

European Youth Press, in collaboration with the European Parliament, invites young journalists to participate in the European Youth Media Days held Oct. 16-18.

The event, the largest of its kind in Europe for young journalists, will focus on the economic crisis that is currently threatening Europe. Over the course of the three-day workshop, each young journalist will work with his/her peers to produce a report on the topic of the seminar through their medium of choice - video, photo, radio, print or multimedia.

Travel costs will be reimbursed by the European Parliament. Working journalists will receive a lump sum of EUR€360 (about US$454) for participating, journalism students or interns will receive and EUR€180 (about US$230.)

Young journalists from other countries can participate but must pay their own expenses.

The application deadline is August 1.

this year’s event!  Now in it’s TWELFTH season, Media That Matters™ offers you the
 opportunity to empower communities working towards social change. Media That Matters™ – the premier showcase for short films with big messages –
connects you with hundreds of thousands of people across the globe, including
 educators, activists, and nonprofits. Through a multi-platform campaign combining
 online streaming with personalized screenings, your film can be a tool that opens hearts 
and minds about the collective struggle for a more socially conscious world. Join us by
 submitting your film now!

 Short Films: Films must be twelve minutes MAXIMUM; the ideal length is around eight minutes.

All Styles: We accept documentaries, narratives, animations, music videos, public
 service announcements, dramas, comedies, hybrids, or a style of your own creation!
 Creativity is always encouraged. The only guideline is that your project must focus on a 
social issue.

All Issues: Any and all issues will be considered.

All Ages: All ages will be considered.

Deadline:                Early Deadline- February 23, 2012
                                  Regular Deadline: April 20, 2012
                                  Late Deadline: May 1, 2012
*the festival will take place in the Fall of 2012

UNICEF calls for entries for its 2011 International Children's Day of Broadcasting Award.

Deadline is Friday 1 July.

If you participated in the this year's ICDB on 6 March 2011, we would love for you to submit your programming for the ICDB Award. Entries should be mailed to your respective regional offices.

The ICDB Award will go to the broadcasters with the best programming that reflects the 2011 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting theme: Girls Are… Boys Are… , and who demonstrates a overall dedication to youth-participation in media.

To be eligible for the ICDB Award, the broadcast must have taken place on or around Sunday, 6 March 2011 in conjunction with the 2011 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting.

The International Children's Day of Broadcasting Award honours programming that allows youth the opportunity to speak up and be heard. Programmes should be for young people and created with some aspect of youth participation.
