NEWS / AWARDS: UNICEF Announces Nominees for 2010 ICDB Award


UNICEF is proud to announce the nominees for the 2010 International Children’s Day of Broadcasting Awards. The winners will be announced at the ICDB Awards Ceremony on 2 November 2010 in New York.

The nominees for television include ATN Bangla (Bangladesh), Ethiopian Radio and Television Services, TV3 (Malaysia), C7 Sistema Jalisciense de Radio y Televisión (SJRTV) (Mexico), SOREAD/2M (Morocco), Télévision Togolaise and UzNTT (Uzbekistan).

The nominees for radio include Radijojo World Children’s Radio Network (Germany), All India Radio, Tejarat Radio (Iran), TRAXXfm Radio Televisyen Malaysia, Radio y Televisión de Aguascalientes (Mexico), Voice of Nigeria and Maputaland Community Radio Station (South Africa).

NEWS / EVENTS: Capturing the voices of young people at the World Youth Conference

LEON, MEXICO, 26 August 2010 - Engaging with adolescents and young people and discussing pressing issues they face in their lives is the goal of UNICEF’s participation in the World Youth Conference in Mexico.

Approximately 106 million young people between 15 and 24 years of age live in Latin America and the Caribbean region and they account for about 20 per cent of the total population. Together with the government of Mexico, and partners from UN agencies, academic institutions and NGOs, UNICEF is organising multiple activities for young people from the region during the one week conference in Mexico.

Application to the World Youth Conference in Mexico 2010 now open

In the context of the International Year of Youth, Mexico invites you to participate in the World Youth Conference (WYC 2010) that will take place in Mexico City from August 23 to 27, 2010.

Deadline for applications is April 9th 2010.

The WYC Mexico 2010 will be composed of 3 main events that will be interconnected, each representing the actors involved in strengthening the young people’s participation in the development of the future: the Governments Forum, the Legislators Forum and the Social Forum (the latter is composed of the Global NGOs Meeting and the Global Youth Village).
The Conference will start with the NGO Global Meeting. The main objective of the WYC Mexico 2010 will be the creation of a declaration that represents the voice of the world’s youth, concerning the main 11 subjects of the Conference: poverty and exclusion, employment, education, technology and innovation, health, gender equality, security, social justice and human rights, sustainable development, international migration, citizen’s participation and incidence, and global cooperation.

OPPORTUNITIES: Spanish-speaking young journalists invited to submit works on freedom

Spanish-speaking journalists younger than 25-years-old in Latin America and throughout the world have until September 30 to enter a competition that aims to express the concept of freedom and its obstacles.

The contest, organized by Grupo Salinas in Mexico, is accepting works in musical theatre, photography, fine arts, videos and essays. The competition marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The first place winner will be awarded MXN$50,000 (about US$3,780); the second place winner will receive MXN$30,000 (about US$2,268), and the third, MXN$15,000 (about US$1,130). Winners will be announced on November 5.
