NEWS: Arab media workers call for more youth programming

[Mona Yahia] Arab media should provide more youth programming like "Stade 7", a popular sports broadcast, participants said.

The Arab world's private satellite channels do not offer programming that serves the interests of young people, said participants at a Tuesday (June 15th) conference held by the Tunis-based Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU).

About 700 satellite television channels broadcast programmes in the Arab world, with topics ranging from religion and art to politics and astrology.

"Where are the youth issues in this huge number of channels?" ASBU director-general Slaheddine Maaoui asked at the Tunis event, which tackled how state media can attract young people, the role of government channels and the need to involve youth in media production.

Les jeunes, la communication et les médias

INFOTUNISIE – La célébration de 2010, année internationale de la jeunesse, sur proposition tunisienne, se poursuit en Tunisie avec un rythme soutenu regroupant les différentes structures et organisations gouvernementales, non-gouvernementales, ainsi que toutes les composantes de la société civile.

C’est dans ce cadre que l’Institut de Presse et des Sciences de l'Information (IPSI) et la fondation allemande Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung organisent, du 14 au 16 avril courants à Tunis, un colloque international qui aura pour thème les «jeunes, communication et médias».

NEWS / EVENTS: Tunisia to hold international symposium on ”Youth, Communication and Media”

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- The Institute of Press and Information Sciences (IPSI) and the German foundation "Konrad Adenauer Stiftung" organizes from April 14 to 16 in Tunis, an international symposium on ''Youth, Communication and Media".

The meeting will be an opportunity to debate the relationship between youth and media. It will bring together researchers from Tunisia, Canada, the Arab world and Europe. Media executives, journalists and representatives of civil society will also take part in the event.

NEWS: Conference highlights role of youth in Tunisia’s media landscape (AFRICA)

TUNISIAONLINENEWS- A conference given on Tuesday by Mr Oussama Romdhani,
Acting Minister in Charge of Communication and Relations with the
Chamber of Deputies and the Chamber of Advisors, stressed the importance
Tunisia gives to associating young people to the country's media and
communication networks.

In his conference entitled "Youth and the global media landscape", Mr
Romdhani stressed the pertinence of President Ben Ali's prospective
approach to the Tunisian media scene, noting that the presidential
vision anticipated the changes that occurred on the global media scene
and notably the boom witnessed by satellite channels and the internet.
The Minister was addressing the winter university of RCD young cadres in
Sousse.
