Nicaragua celebrates ICDB

Nicaragua doesn’t just celebrate the ICDB with a token show with youth presenters.  UNICEF Nicaragua has transformed the ICDB into a multi-event initiative that integrates culture and social issues for youth and adolescents.  

Community Officer Guiselle Alemán Ayala explains that over the past 9 years in Nicaragua, the ICDB “has become a day of social mobilization to put on the public agenda topics of interest of children and adolescents throughout the country.”

COMPETITIONS: UNICEF Sponsors Contest On Children's Rights In Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The office of The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Nicaragua said Thursday it will launch a contest on rights of children and adolescents together with the Central American University, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

All journalists, social communicators, cartoonists and graphic reporters living in Nicaragua can participate in the 5th National Communication Contest with the theme of "Quality education for all the children," according to UNICEF.

UNICEF press chief Olga Moraga said the contest will be open for works published from Oct. 1, 2009 to Oct. 31, 2010 on any magazine, website or other Nicaraguan media and communication companies.

OPPORTUNITIES: Young journalists in Chile, Nicaragua invited to apply for internship in Spain

Young Latin American journalists in Chile and Nicaragua can apply to a year-long internship in Spain. Candidates must be recent graduates of social communication or journalism from universities in Chile or Nicaragua. Deadline: May 15.

The internships are through Agencia EFE in Santiago de Compostela and the communication office of Pescanova in Vigo.

The scholarship includes a monthly stipend of EU€1,200 (US$1,614), relocation aid, and EU€1,500 (US$2,017) for airfare. The internship must last one year, starting July 1.
