TRAINING / NEWS: Media training seminar held in East Kazakhstan Region

Ust-Kamenogorsk, 30 March: A training seminar "Media and Children’s Rights. Ethical Principles in Reporting Child Rights” was held for journalists of East Kazakhstan Oblast (EKO) in Ust-Kamenogorsk on 28–29 March 2013.

The seminar was conducted with UNICEF’s partner the Legal Media Centre as part of the cooperation between UNICEF and the Kazakh Ombudsman’s Office on raising capacity of the media in ethical reporting child rights under the UN EKO and Kazakh Government Joint Programme. The workshop was opened by Yerbol Nurgaliyev, the Head of the Internal Policy Department of the East Kazakshtan Oblast Administration, Vyacheslav Kalyuzhniy, Director of the National Human Rights Centre, and Arkadiy Issayev, the Director of the EKO Child Protection Department, who thanked and praised the journalists for their interest and participation in the valuable workshop in order to enhance their capacity in child issues media reporting.

A UNICEF international expert on prevention of violence against children, Robin Haarr (the USA), who was conducting a training of trainers on violence prevention in Ust-Kamenogorsk on the same days, was invited to the seminar to deliver a session on the notions of violence against children, violence identification, reporting and some aspects of media coverage of violence against children.
