OPPORTUNITIES: My Story, our history – European memories

"Do you remember your first day at school? Do you remember what you have done and thought when the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain came down?"

You are not alone with your thoughts about those days. Those events remain unforgettable. But there are other events which we forget or even try to eliminate. At the European Youth Media Convention we want to discuss how individuals or societies deal with memories. Taking the peaceful revolution in Eastern Europe as an example we want to question different ways to remember, e.g. oral history reports or memorials. What do we remember? Do you want to join our research about individual and collective memories?

Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, German Youth Press and European Youth Press would like to invite you and 24 other young European media makers to this European congress about "My Story, our history – European memories".

You will be a representative of your country and thus report about local memories as well as history. In this way the congress offers you the chance to get connected with young media makers from all across Europe. You will get the opportunity to listen to presentations of experts and moreover discuss and exchange different perspectives with them. Afterwards you will create media products in four workshops. Due to interests and skills you can chose between print, radio, TV and photography.

The European Youth Media Convention will take part from November 3rd until the 6th 2010. There is no participation fee. Accommodation and catering are organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation Berlin. The travel costs will not be paid.

Please submit your application to eymc2010(at)jugendpresse.de until August 10th 2010 at the latest. You need to send a short letter of motivation including your CV with your experiences in media and project work.
