Media Advisory - Arctic Youth Expedition launches at the Ontario Science Centre

    TORONTO, Sept. 2 /CNW/ - Cape Farewell is an international project about
climate change, conceived by British artist David Buckland and supported by
the British Council. It brings together scientists, artists, educators and
high school students from around the world and from each province and
territory in Canada on an Arctic journey of discovery. The project is designed
to raise awareness of climate change and to equip young people to become
climate change ambassadors at home and abroad.

    WHAT:     16 Canadian students from each province and territory and 12
              international students from Brazil, Germany, India, Ireland,
              Mexico and the UK all participating in this year's Cape
              Farewell Youth Expedition will be at the Ontario Science Centre
              to celebrate, before they fly to Reykjavik, Iceland. They will
              set sail on September 7 on a two-week voyage that will
              circumvent the tip of Greenland, navigate the Davis Strait and
              then head to Iqaluit, Baffin Island where they will disembark.

              The Ontario Science Centre has collaborated with last year's
              participants and will be unveiling their art installations
              expressing ideas inspired by polar research. The result is On
              Thin Ice: Youth Respond to International Polar Year on display
              from Sept. 4 to Jan. 15/09, in the Science Centre's Idea
              Gallery.

    IMPORTANT:

    TV crews may park at the bottom of the Centre. Enter off Gateway Blvd
    (one light south of main entrance off of Don Mills), drive down the hill
    to large parking lot and enter through security entrance (glass doors).
