KNN promotes children's media against violence

Philippines (24 June) - Two representatives from the Kabataan News Network (KNN) Cebu Bureau joined the National Youth Media Summit held recently in Manila.

Jeiami Inso and Elna Opolentisima of KNN-Cebu echoed what they learned from the workshop. Inso told her fellow KNN members that the National Youth Summit was a gathering of about 50 students ages 15-20 that are involved in print, radio and television production in various parts of the country.

Inso and Opolentisima said that these young people are young media practitioners and members of the various campus newspapers. Some of them are photographers while others are video and program producers of television and radio in their own schools and localities from Baguio, Camarines Norte, Metro Manila, Cebu, Capiz, Dumaguete City, Davao, Cotabato and Kidapawan.

"Daghan gyud mi'g natun-an sa workshop (We've learned so many things in the workshop) and issues as well on violence against children," Elna told her KNN-Cebu mates.

The National Youth Media Summit was organized by Probe Media Foundation, Inc. (PMFI) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The participants underwent an intensive four-day workshop to learn about forms of violence against children, and produce tri-media outputs on the issues.
