Young journalists between the ages of 18 and 30 are invited to enter Café Babel’s “Something new for the East – Impulses for Europe?” competition. Winners will be invited to participate in the Babel Academy for Journalists in Berlin from January 17-20. Deadline: December 17.

Articles must be no longer than 4,000 characters and must discuss developments in Eastern European EU member states. Articles about Romania and Bulgaria are particularly encouraged. Articles should be written in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Catalan. Those articles not in English or German must include a translation into one of those languages. Participation in the Berlin program is free. Café Babel will pay 80 percent of travel costs for German participants, up to EU€100 (about US$148). For participants outside Germany, Café Babel will cover 80 percent of travel costs up to EU€150 (about US$222).
