FUNDING: Disadvantaged to learn media skills (UK)

Disadvantaged to learn media skills By - 29/03/06
A £6m fund to help disadvantaged young people gain media skills will inform the development of more wide-ranging work on youth media.

Beverley Hughes, the minister for children and young people, told Young People Now the money, announced in last week's Budget, will be allocated over two years.

Hughes said: "This funding will really give us a chance to see how we can develop a youth media activity, in local projects and at a national level."

The Budget also announced a £2m fund for a national competition in 2006-07 to recognise what young people have achieved through the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund. These will give young people money to spend on youth facilities and activities.
