Dubai media awards open to all journalism students

Feb 24, 2006

Journalism students worldwide have until March 15 to enter a competition to
recognize young media talent, organized by Dubai Media City.

The Ibda'a Media Students Awards - named for an Arabic word for creativity -
have 10 categories: animation, TV documentary, film feature, print
advertising, TV advertising, graphic design, analog photography, digital
photography, journalism (non-news), and radio.

There is one award for each category, plus a special award for an
outstanding entry from a United Arab Emirates university student.

Dubai Media City is holding the event in cooperation with the UAE branch of
the International Advertising Association (IAA). Sponsors include the BBC,
Dubai Press Club and Emirates Bank, among others.

A panel of experienced judges will select the final winners on April 15. A
gala dinner for the winners is scheduled for April 25 after a two-day
exhibition of winning entries. Winners receive trophies and internships with
leading global media outlets.

Dubai Media City launched the Ibda'a Media Student Awards in June 2001. For
more information, contact Lami Zeid at telephone +971 4 361 6666 or Deepa
