OPPORTUNITIES: Radical Democracy: Video Challenge 2014

Upload your video for an open society! How can we create an open and inclusive European society? Share your ideas and win €2500!

Deadline for entries is April 13.

Every crisis offers opportunity. The current European economic and political crisis polarises societies and challenges the ‘European dream’. But at the same time, and across Europe, ordinary people are reclaiming public space, demanding transparency and social justice. A new sense of community and citizenship is spreading and the great thing is: we share the experience.
With the European Parliament Elections ahead, we at Doc Next Network think it’s time to take it a step further. We’re calling on media makers, social activists and critical thinkers to share your views on ‘Europe’, in the form of audiovisual media works. We invite you to challenge prevailing notions of democracy and representation, to reflect on alternatives, and to create new narratives for an open society. Building an online video platform, we aim to instigate a debate and discover ‘radical’ stories about what is and should be happening in Europe. We believe that through our stories and creative media works, we are able to represent ourselves and our communities, locally and globally. This is what we call Radical Democracy.
So: take a stand and share your views about Radical Democracy for Europe on video. Become a part of the debate around the 2014 European Elections - and win a €2500 award.
We are looking for media works in all genres and visual forms, shot or created in any format. We will accept videos of up to 5 minutes in length - but remember, less is more. All works should be made within the last 2 years. We encourage you to produce videos especially for the challenge! Deadline for entries is April 13. Interested? Go to challenge.docnextnetwork.org for entry guidelines.
Online audiences and a professional jury will choose the winning entries, to be awarded during the Planete+Doc Film Festival in Warsaw on May 16. Selected works will be screened at various festivals and platforms across Europe and become a part of the Doc Next Online Media Collection.
Radical Democracy: Video Challenge for an Open Society is a project by Doc Next Network, an initiative of the European Cultural Foundation. Radical Democracy is supported by the Open Society Foundations.
