PROJECTS / PHOTOGRAPHY: Life through a lens (SLOVAKIA)

Artur Conka is a young Roma man determined to use his talent and passion to help those he left behind. Artur recently graduated with BA (Hons) Photography degree from the University of Derby during which he made a short film about Roma people living in the vast, crumbling Lunik IX housing complex in Kosice, Slovakia. You can see it below.

As a former Lunik IX resident himself – Artur lived there until he was three, when his parents left Slovakia – his film perfectly captures the derelict tower blocks surrounded by rubbish, and limited running water and power supplies. The Roma community were mainly settled there by the Slovakian government.
