A team of young journalists from Carrbridge, a small village in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland, were recently presented with the “Best Use of Journalism on the Web” award as part of the Highlands & Islands Media Awards 2011. Carrbridge News, the youth run, non-profit, community news sharing initiative that was presented with the award, launched in October 2009 to fill the gap for a community news scheme in the village. The young team were already running community oriented, non-profit, film company, Carrbridge Films, and as a result of this they decided against the more traditional print newsletter format and launched www.carrbridgenews.co.uk - a platform for releasing quarterly digital video news programmes.
