Yemen stands out in UNICEF Regional Awards for Media about Children's Rights
SANA'A, MARCH 7 — Yemeni radio program 'From the Children's Memories' has won the first UNICEF Regional Awards for Media on Children's Rights in the radio category.
During each of its 37-minute episodes during Ramadan last year, Yemeni children and adolescents spoke out about incidents which had changed their lives. They expressed their thoughts on various issues, including the sensitive topics of AIDS, terrorism, early marriage and discrimination.
Sameer Al-Madhagi, producer of the program for Yemen's Radio Channel, was happy at the recognition although he admitted that he expected more support.
"It would have been helpful to get some capacity building such as a scholarship to study child rights, or training or anything that would help us improve our performance. After all, we are working hard against all odds to promote children's rights," he said.
