Youth Media Guyana (YMG) was launched on Tuesday with the aim of empowering the country's youth by equipping them with the skills necessary to express themselves.

YMG is the brainchild of six youths, two of whom are media workers at the National Communications Network (NCN) and who attended the Kids & Docs Festival in Paramaribo, Suriname last December. The festival included television, radio, print and rap workshops with the aim of allowing youths from within Caricom to actively access resources geared to assist in youth expression. After participating in the workshop the group said they realised that youth expression and representation and access to the media are severely lacking in Guyana. They resolved to become the core group for youth media advocacy in Guyana which resulted in the formation of YMG.
