KRISTIANSAND'S FEST FOR KIDPICS TURNS 10

Excerpts from four new Norwegian productions on show at the Kristiansand International Children's Film Festival, which started yesterday (Tuesday, 24 April) and runs through Saturday, 28 April

Norway's Kristiansand International Children's Film Festival, which opened yesterday (Tuesday, 24 April) with the local première of Norwegan director Petter Næss' Swedish film, Hoppet (The Jump), expected to sell 15,000 tickets for its 10th anniversary programme, which comprises 95 films from 24 countries, adding numerous seminars and 27 film workshops.

Among the highlights from this year's selection festival director Danckert Monrad-Krohn emphasised Swedish directors Ylva Gustavsson and Catti Edfeldt's Berlinale player, Förortsungar (Kidz in da Hood), which was awarded five guldbaggar, the local Oscars. Also two Danish films, Nikolaj Arcel's De fortabte sjæles Ø (Island of Lost Souls) and Christina Rosendahl's Supervoksen (Triple Dare).

Excerpts from four new local productions will be on show at Kristiansand, including Stig Svendsen's Radiopiratene (The Radio Pirates), Grethe Bøe-Waal's Titanics ti liv (The Ten Lives of the Titanic), Arne Lindtner Næss's SOS Svartskjær fyr (SOS Lighthouse Svartskjar) and Rasmus Sivertsen's Kurt blir grusom (Kurt Gets Cruel), introduced by directors and producers.

Monrad-Krohn will also present Norwegian filmmakers of tomorrow in a sidebar of shorts, which comprises the domestic launch of Lisa Marie Gamlem's Bennys gym (Benny's Gym), selected for the Berlinale and in competition at Germany's upcoming International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. The anniversary is celebrated with an open air programme at the Fønix Theatre on Saturday, 28 April.
