UNICEF to produce documentary to generate awareness

New Delhi, Nov. 14 (PTI): If Meena and her pet parrot Mithu became mascots of the UNICEF in its projects in India, the world body is now gearing up to produce a documentary film aimed at women and child development in the country.

Following the footsteps of the major success of the animation series 'Meena and Mithu', UNICEF is now planning to come up with a documentary film in collaboration with Doordarshan.

"Negotiations are on with Doordarshan. Let's see when we can come up with the documentary. The aim is to make a documentary which will spread over more than 300 episodes," Cecilio Adorna, UNICEF's India representative told PTI here.

Adorna said the documentary should roll out somewhere in 2007 and a substantial budget has been alloted for it.

The documentary will focus on women and children, dwelling on issues such as behavioural changes, sanitation, health and hygiene.
