Friday 7 and Saturday 8 July 2006 have been announced as the dates of the 3rd Showcomotion Children?s Media Conference at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
Anna Home OBE, Chair of the Showcomotion Children?s Media Conference, said:
?We have proved that there is a need for an event specifically for the children?s media industry in the UK. The 2006 gathering will be helping producers, executives, broadcasters and freelancers to keep abreast of all the new and future developments in kids? TV such as the pressures coming from government, the multi-channel environment and the financial position of the terrestrial broadcasters.?
?Showcomotion 2005 provided delegates with the insight and intelligence they need for the year ahead. As a service to delegates, the conference commissioned a unique research project looking at children?s media and lifestyle choices in the face of the changing technological possibilities. Presented by MediaCom and Kids Industries in the Kids Today (and Tomorrow) session, a digest of this research is now available on the Showcomotion Conference website.?
2005 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
Showcomotion 2005 looked ahead to a world in which keynote speaker, the then CBBC Controller Alison Sharman, described VOD and interactive, multi-platform content as a pre-requisite for successful kids? brands. The conference theme Are they being served? explored whether quality programming was under threat ? even given the opportunities presented by new technology and platforms.
Breakout sessions on animation funding, the demise of the documentary, storytelling in games, case studies in cross-media exploitation, and a popular masterclass on comedy writing, ensured that the event examined the children?s media environment in depth.
The Showcomotion Debate Crisis? What Crisis? was staged at BAFTA in October 2005 to explore the issues around the pressures on programme quality in the children?s market ? new technology, advertiser flight and regulation. High-profile contributions from David Liddiment, Nigel Pickard, and Ofcom?s Tim Suter produced a fruitful evening?s discussion, which will be followed-up in 2006.
2005 DELEGATES? COMMENTS
?Now established as a high spot in media diary.?
?The new technology sessions were most interesting to me as it is often very difficult to keep up.?
?Really tackled the business issues facing all producers.?
?So wonderful to have a place for us all to come together to discuss the issues that face our industry.?
There was an enthusiastic response from delegates who attended the conference in July 2005. 100% said they would come again; 84% said that their overall opinion of the conference was excellent and 80% said the session content was excellent.
