NEWS: Two Swedish Entries in Berlin's KinderFilmFest

TWO SWEDISH ENTRIES IN BERLIN'S KINDERFILMFEST

The first official Nordic selections for the 56th Berlinale included Swedish directors Anders Gustafsson's Percy, Buffalo Bill & Jag (Percy, Buffalo Bill & I), and Henry Meyer's Fyra veckor i juni (Four Weeks in June), both screening in the Kinderfilmfest

The first official Nordic selections for the 56th Berlin International Film Festival were announced on Monday, 19 December - and among the 11 entries in the Kinderfilmfest/14 plus sections were two Swedish features, Anders Gustafsson's Percy, Buffalo Bill & Jag (Percy, Buffalo Bill & I), and Henry Meyer's Fyra veckor i juni (Four Weeks in June).

"A children's film in the best tradition of Scandinavian story-telling cinema," said programme director Thomas Hailer of Percy, Buffalo Bill & Jag, which is based on Swedish author Ulf Stark's third book about the two classmates from Stureby, Percy and Ulf. While the first two became television series, Gustafsson filmed his first Swedish feature from the story about their summer holiday. Percy, Buffalo Bill & Jag was produced by Anne Ingvar for Nordisk Film Production Sweden; her Tsatsiki, morsan och polisen (Tsatsiki, Mum and the Policeman) won in Berlin 2000.

While Percy, Buffalo Bill & Jag will be presented in the traditional Kinderfilmfest, Fyra veckor i juni will screen in the 14plus section, which is running for the third time. Starring Tuva Novotny and Ghita Nørby, the film follows Sandra, who comes to a new town after being convicted of assault after a fight with her boyfriend. She moves into an apartment, where an 80-year-old neighbour, Lilly, becomes her friend and soul mate - but Lilly has her secrets, too. Peter Kropenin produced the feature for Omega Film, in co-production with, among others, Sonet Film.

Festival director Dionysos Reitz Kerasiotis, of the Buster Copenhagen International Children's Film Festival, and Norwegian director Torun Lian (who most recently made Ikke naken/The Colour of Milk) are among the members of the Kinderfilmfest jury. The Berlin International Film Festival takes place between Thursday, 9 - Sunday, 19 February.
