| A very good idea. Does anybody know about existing structures like this in any other country??? Chris --------------- Media: Youth panel could monitor the media | |

| Ofcom and the Press Complaints Commission will consider setting up a youth panel to monitor media portrayal of young people, following lobbying by the children's commissioner and the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP). Al Aynsley-Green and representatives of the UKYP met the media regulators last week to discuss the idea, which was previously mooted by young people during meetings with government ministers. They also surveyed evidence and a draft code of conduct produced as part of Young People Now's Positive Images campaign. MYPs are pressing for greater powers of scrutiny over the media and better awareness among young people about how to complain if they feel they are unfairly portrayed. Aynsley-Green, MYPs and both media watchdogs have agreed to put together more detailed plans about the panel. | |
